And you yourself can be strange and unusual in this Lydia Deetz closet cosplay.

I’ll be the first to admit that Beetlejuice was one of the creepy 1980s movies that scared me witless. I’m still mind-boggled by Michael Keaton’s dynamic acting range, who I swear hasn’t aged in a decade. He’s stepping back into the grave (or is it OUT of the grave?) for this week’s Beetlejuice 2 release. I’m never one to turn down a woman in red, so let’s build a closet cosplay to DIE for.

One of the most iconic scenes of the original Beetlejuice film is the wedding of Lydia and Beetlejuice. Her red wedding dress is indicative of Tim Burton’s vivid, if stark, color palate. It’s a fun world to play in, and it’ll be interesting to see what new horrors reveal themselves in this next installment. With this build, we’ll turn you into the belle of the ghoul’s ball!

Lydia Deetz Closet Cosplay: The Gown

OK, hear me out. I know the original gown was meant to be comically awkward on her, but that’s no reason we can’t go glam, right? I love the idea of casually strolling into your local movie theater decked out in a GOWN and some goth makeup. Yes, please, yummy.

Whether you go modern or classic 1980s, long-sleeved or short, the devil is in YOUR details. This is a cosplay that will come across as long as you get the gown color/style and hair down. Bring in some extra details to make this yours. Add in some sparkle, or some hidden trinkets, little easter eggs that people will notice up close.

Lydia Deetz Closet Cosplay: The Wig

One of the most fun parts of Lydia’s look is her hair. She rocks some VERY distinctive locks in the film. Whether you have the hair to style or want to go with a wig, get that color right and you’ll be good to go.

Lydia Deetz Closet Cosplay: The Makeup

Lydia doesn’t wear MUCH makeup in the film, so go for a smudgy goth look or leave the makeup off and try to make yourself look tired and broody, like a moody teenager!

Lydia Deetz Closet Cosplay: Handbook for the Recently Deceased

No Beetlejuice cosplay would be complete without your very own Handbook for the Recently Deceased. It has all you need… And more!

Oh hey! Say our name three times and click the links in this article, and you’ll help keep BoLS alive! We appreciate all donations to the cause, and promise we won’t show up on your doorstep with offers of matrimony.

    In Memory of Kenneth Patrick “Kenny” Webb (1988–2024) https://koboldpress.com/in-memory-of-kenneth-patrick-kenny-webb-1988-2024/ Thu, 28 Mar 2024 14:00:00 +0000 http://rpgnews.com/?p=488754

It is with great sadness that Kobold Press must announce the loss of a member of our extended Warrens, Kenneth Patrick “Kenny” Webb, who passed away at his home in Illinois on March 12, 2024.

Kenny first joined us in 2021 as a convention volunteer before going on to work with the Editorial department as an Editor and Proofreader.

Kenny edited a number of digital PDF releases for the Book of Blades series as well as adventure modules, including Trouble at Mossbeard Mill. He also worked on major hardcover releases, including the upcoming Tales of the Valiant Player’s Guide and Monster Vault.

Funny and kind, Kenny was a beloved member of the Warrens whose skill and expertise elevated every project he was involved in. His absence will be felt profoundly.

Kenny is survived by his partner Amber Seger, Kobold Press’ Project Manager, to whom we have extended our deepest condolences.

In loving memory of Kenny, memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, https://afsp.org/chapter/illinois.

Get Futuristic with These ‘Cyberpunk 2077’ Evelyn Parker Cosplays https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2024/03/cyberpunk-evelyn-parker-cosplay.html Wed, 27 Mar 2024 20:00:00 +0000 http://rpgnews.com/?p=488223 This Doll has secrets that not even she knows… but we’ll remember these Evelyn Parker cosplays! Take a look at these Cyberpunk 2077 Dolls.

Cyberpunk 2077 is one of the most anticipated video games of recent years. The game hails from CD Projekt, the team that produced the well-acclaimed and loved Witcher series. The Witcher games (and subsequent TV series from Netflix) have produced epic cosplays. Now, Cyberpunk has a similar draw for cosplayers, such as this unusual, stunning character from Cyberpunk 2077—Evelyn Parker Cosplay.

The Cyberpunk 2077 game is rooted in the dark underbelly of a futuristic society. Players can get lost in Night City, an immersive Open-World environment. The game famously features Keanu Reeves as one of the main storied characters, Johnny Silverhand. Additionally, Mercenary V can be anybody you want them to be, which is a unique experience among video games. Evelyn Parker is an NPC of note, a “Doll.” If you’re getting flashbacks of Eliza Dushku, there’s a reason.

    Problematic subject matter? You betcha.

    Cringe-Worthy Cinematics

It’s a hyper-futuristic fictional setting that nobody anticipates will ever happen, right? This is fine. Totally fine. Nothing sketchy here AT ALL. Anyways, the Doll characters by design people please and provide services in the entertainment and communications fields. They are smokin’ hot and provide a lot of creative fodder for cosplayers.

A few cosplayers have taken to the sequins and latex to bring Cyberpunk’s Evelyn Parker to life. Admittedly, the aesthetic is gorgeous, with the high contrast cyber scene that brings back the 1980s with a VENGEANCE. Films like Atomic Blonde have revived a love for 80’s culture and aesthetics, which Cyberpunk embodies in spades. We hope you enjoy these Evelyn Parker Cosplays!

‘Kobolds Ate My Baby’ and ‘MORK BORG’ Crossover in ‘SMORKAS BORG’ https://www.belloflostsouls.net/2024/03/kobolds-ate-my-baby-and-mork-borg-crossover-in-smorkas-borg.html Wed, 27 Mar 2024 19:45:00 +0000 http://rpgnews.com/?p=488240 SMÖRKAS BORG is the crossover you didn’t know wanted: the manic glee of Kobolds Ate My Baby amid the Apocalypse of MÖRK BORG.

As unlikely a crossover as the Muppets escaping from New York after they took Manhattan, 9th Level Games blends the chaotic, “beer & pretzels roleplaying” of Kobold’s Ate My Baby with the dark, brutal aesthetic of MÖRK BORGIt’s not a chocolate/peanut butter situation, is what we’re saying. But these two tastes may make a greater whole.

If you are unaware of Kobolds Ate My Baby, congratulations, now you are. This is a game of Kobolds, whose lives are silly, brutal, and short. The game claims it’s all about sending kobold after kobold on a hapless quest to bring back a tasty treat. But it’s really about getting people to say “ALL HAIL KING TORG” any time you say the words King and Torg. Don’t believe me? Next time you’re at a gaming convention, shout it out in the common play area, you’ll see what I mean.

Meanwhile, MÖRK BORG is a brutally aesthetic game about adventuring in the end of the world. You are an adventurer who is metal AF, as outlined in the extremely vibes-and-coffee-table-friendly look of the book itself. These two come together in SMÖRKAS BORG, which is hitting stores this week from 9th-level games.

SMÖRKAS BORG – Kobolds Ate My Baby in the Apocalypse

Kobolds are fearless (and hungry). But in the deepest and darkest depths of the cave, the less stupid prophets of vore speak of the coming of the end. The end of the road, one for the ditch! Eventually, someone has to pay the bill for this endless buffet that kobolds call life.

On that day, all the food will be gone, and the only thing left to eat will be KOBOLD.

    Ye tiny ragnarok.

    The amouse bouche of apocalypses.

    Oh armageddon entree.

    Cry, culinary cataclysm.

    De Smörkås Borg cometh.

    All hail King Törg!

Takenoko and Mind MGMT maker’s new board game follows tiny cats in a bustling Japanese city https://www.dicebreaker.com/games/kyoto-no-neko/news/kyoto-no-neko-board-game-cats-in-japan-announcement?utm_source=feed&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=feed Wed, 27 Mar 2024 05:13:12 +0000 http://rpgnews.com/?p=487730 Kyoto no Neko is a new competitive board gamehttps://www.dicebreaker.com/categories/board-game/best-games/best-board-games-2024 from the publisher responsible for Takenoko and Mind MGMT, and it give players the true gift of living the life of a cat roaming the streets of Kyoto.

Designed by Cédric Millet and illustrated by Jérémie Fleury, Kyoto no Neko supports two to four feline travellers who will gradually uncover bits of Kyoto’s unique architecture and culture as seen from the vantage point of a stray cat. Over the course of their life, the player-cats will hunt down interesting bugs, the best spots to snag a free meal and humans that are either sympathetic or critical of your kind.

Gameplay surrounds a series of missions that form an independent scenario – each player will wortk through their own using the natural grace and curiosity of a cat. That could mean wooing a local school child to settle a turf war with another cat, or perhaps swiping free kibble from another player’s food bowl. As one player reveals a critical resource, location or person, they mark it with specific tiles or standees.

Over the course of the game, your bushy-tailed kittens will grow into thriving and cunning cats and consequently open up new areas of the map that your bumbling, awkward kitten phase found impossible to traverse. Publisher Matagot didn’t specify what these skills look like in action but mentioned that this 35-minute long board game has been designed with both newcomers and veteran players in mind.

“I wanted to give everyone the chance to embody a kitten in a condensed experience of exploration and skill development, based on a role-playing mechanic in which every dice roll has a positive outcome (you succeed or you learn!),” said Millet. “The game lets you experience the sensations of a kitten’s life by performing the full variety of typically feline activities (at least a new one in each scenario); I hope it will delight cat fans of all ages!”

“Sharing my studio with three adorable cats and being a big fan of Japanese aesthetics, I put a lot of passion into this project,” said Fleury. “You’ll find nods to pop culture and a healthy dose of cuteness to ensure that players have a convivial time. Maybe the experience will even make you want to travel, because ever since I illustrated Kyoto No Neko, all I’ve wanted to do is go to Japan!”

Kyoto no Neko will be playable at this year’s Essen Spiel convention, and Matagot plans to open sales during that convention. No date is available for wider retail, but expect it to hit hobby shop shelves later this year.

The hottest release on MY anticipated games list for 2024 has finally dropped. The era of PC Horizon gaming is back in our grasp with the launch of the Horizon Forbidden West Complete Edition on Steam this week.

While I’m a lifelong PlayStation stan, I’m trash at action combat. My first playthrough of Forbidden West was on release day on PS5—the reason I bought the console. I can’t wait to sink my teeth back into this world now that it’s out on PC finally! My clumsiness is MUCH better on a mouse and keyboard for this type of game.

In honor of the game’s release, we’re featuring the wild, fierce warriors of the Tenakh. This class of warriors reminds Aloy of her homeland with the Nora, and she makes her way with them with little trouble. Alesita Cosplay likewise dons the Tenakh garb with ease. She was even commended by Guerrilla Games for her cosplay! Scroll through these gorgeous Aloy cosplay pics, and follow Alesita for more cosplay!

All the News from the 50th Anniversary Panel at Gary Con http://www.dndbeyond.com/posts/1686-all-the-news-from-the-50th-anniversary-panel-at Fri, 22 Mar 2024 17:55:27 +0000 http://rpgnews.com/?p=487649

Dungeons & Dragons returns to its roots in Lake Geneva, Wisc., to celebrate its 50th anniversary at Gary Con. D&D Community Manager LaTia Jacquise moderated a panel with Game Architect Chris Perkins and Senior Game Designers Amanda Harmon, Jason Tondro, and Justice Arman to showcase what’s in store for 2024, and preview some stunning art* from upcoming books such as the multiverse-spanning adventure Vecna: Eve of Ruin.

Here’s a breakdown of what you missed at the panel:

    * Please note that artwork included in this article might not be final.

50th Anniversary Play Events Kick Off

Artist: Campbell WhiteA silver dragon poses at a celebration in a city. Confetti rains down on them.

We’re making it easier than ever for you to sit down and play with new and old friends through a series of play events held throughout our gold anniversary. These kick off this weekend at Gary Con and PAX East, where fans get to jump into tournament-style and noncompetitive D&D play with Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth. Top-scoring tables at these conventions will have the opportunity to win fabulous prizes!

Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth is a one-shot adaptation of a Gary Gygax original that has been remastered for the upcoming adventure collection Quests from the Infinite Staircase.

You’ll get to claim a free copy of Descent into the Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth here on D&D Beyond starting March 26. Dungeon Masters will get to challenge their players and compare scoring with other parties using the included optional tournament rules. D&D Beyond users with a Master-tier subscription can jump into play faster, as the adventure will be integrated into Maps, a VTT.

And if you need help finding a DM to play with, we announced earlier this month a partnership with StartPlaying

    Shoutout to Our Partners

The panel turned the spotlight on our partners, including those whose fantastic works have been integrated into the D&D Beyond toolset:

Tome of Beasts 1 is the latest addition to D&D Beyond. This collection of over 400 monsters by Kobold Press went live on D&D Beyond on March 21. With it, you can delight, horrify, and challenge your players, no matter where they adventure in the vast multiverse.

We’ve also been hard at work with other partners to bring more cool merch to our fans:

    • Beadle & Grimm’s launched preorders in early March for the Platinum Edition for Vecna: Eve of Ruin, which includes aluminum-plated cards that come together to form the iconic Rod of Seven Parts, among other goodies to help you run an immersive D&D campaign.
    • Converse has D&D-themed high-top sneakers and other apparel planned for an April 11 release that will let you show off your fandom.
    • The LEGO Group is taking the tabletop game to brick form with the April release of the Dungeons & Dragons: Red Dragon’s Tale set, a free-to-claim adventure, and an actual play show.
    • Reyn Spooner launched a line of Aloha shirts commemorating D&D’s 50th anniversary. You may spot some D&D folks wearing these around the convention!
    • Sirius Dice brought back Acererak’s Treasure Packs, which include a random set of dice, metal coin, and dice bag for the dice goblin in your life.
    • WizKids launched a D&D 50th anniversary line of products, including a pre-painted miniatures set based on classic D&D monsters and characters, as well as plushies.

If you’re at Gary Con this weekend, you can see some of this merch on display in Ballroom C!

    Vecna: Eve of Ruin Discussion

Artist: Bastien Lecouffe DeharmeVecna stands among undead thralls. His left eye and hand glow and he wears gold armor and flowing robes of necrotic red smoke

What happens when the archlich Vecna seeks to destroy the gods and subjugate the multiverse? You get together a team of high-level adventurers and iconic allies to stick it to him! The panel talked about the multiverse-spanning adventure Vecna: Eve of Ruin and the process behind key art made by Bastien Lecouffe Deharme.

Artist: Bastien Lecouffe DeharmeWork-in-progress illustrations of Vecna artwork

We also got a first look at a few other beautiful pieces of art from Vecna: Eve of Ruin, created by Jedd Chevier, Calder Moore, and Brian Valeza.

The adventure will take players on a tour of the multiverse as they hunt down pieces of the Rod of Seven Parts. Krynn is among the realms your players will visit. In this art by Jedd Chevier, we see a pair of adventurers outside the Three Moons Vault, a complex on Krynn where allies of Lord Soth await them.

Artist: Jedd ChevierA pair of adventurers look upon wispy purple magic

And here, we see Evernight in all its morbid glory in the Shadowfell. The city is a dark reflection of Neverwinter and is choked by ash and surrounded by lava. You’ll find necromancers and undead aplenty walking Evernight’s dark streets, and all manner of dark trades being made.

Artist: Calder MooreElegantly crafted buildings built on rocks surrounded by lava

Vecna: Eve of Ruin brings over 30 monsters to your table. Among them are the deathwolf and the hertilod. Deathwolves are more commonly found on Krynn, and they combine the bone-breaking might of werewolves with the horror of the undead. The hertilod are as kind as they are huggable. They arise from the corpses of dead gods in the Astral Sea. If you chance upon one, be prepared to make a quick escape aboard your spelljamming vessel!

You can learn more about the adventure book in our “What Is Vecna: Eve of Ruin?” article.

Artist: Brian ValezaTwo monsters against a plain backdrop. One appears an undead werewolf. The other has a long, spiked neck and tail and jagged teeth.

An Introduction to Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye

Artist: Greg StaplesAn investigator in Neverwinter holds up a fist at a dark sky. Behind them looms a ghastly figure with a skeletal face and boney fingers with long, sharp nails.

We also got a first look at cover art by Greg Staples for Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye, a prequel adventure to Vecna: Eve of Ruin. In this one-shot adventure, your party of 3rd-level characters patrol the streets of Neverwinter and investigate a murder that leads to a face off with Vecna’s cultists.

Preorder a digital copy of Vecna: Eve of Ruin or the physical + digital bundle before May 21 and you’ll receive this prequel adventure as a perk. It releases on April 16. You can otherwise purchase Vecna: Nest of the Eldritch Eye for $4.99 starting May 21, the same date that Vecna: Eve of Ruin becomes available.

Quests from the Infinite Staircase Spotlight

Artists: Syd Mills and Patrick GañasThe traditional and alternate art covers for Quests from the Infinite Staircase. Each depict the noble genie Nafas with a glorious mustache.

Open a door and take a journey through the multiverse in Quests from the Infinite Staircase, a collection of six remastered adventures from D&D’s first edition. The panel showed off cover art by Syd Mills (traditional cover) and Patrick Gañas (alt cover), as well as art from two adventures, The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth and Expedition to the Barrier Peaks.

    The following adventures are included:

    • The Lost City (1st to 3rd level)
    • When a Star Falls (4th to 5th level)
    • Beyond the Crystal Cave (6th level)
    • Pharaoh (7th to 8th level)
    • The Lost Caverns of Tsojcanth (9th to 10th level)
    • Expedition to the Barrier Peaks (11th to 13th level)

The adventure collection went up for preorder on March 21 and releases July 16. And in case you were wondering, yes, laser guns are back!

Artists: Zolton Boros and Michele GiorgiTwo pieces of artwork from Quests from the Infinite Staircase. The first depicts a behir attacking adventurers. The other depicts a mind flayer in a futuristic space suit.

Sneak Peek at The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977

There’s no better place to talk about a book on the inception of Dungeons & Dragons than in Lake Geneva. Attendees got an early look at pages from The Making of Original Dungeons & Dragons: 1970-1977. Below is an introductory page that talks about what you can expect from this historical book. Notably, the book publishes for the first time the first draft of D&D.

And here are the table of contents, revealing the curated collection of documents that D&D Senior Game Designer Jason Tondro walks readers through to show how the game went from an idea to a beloved TTRPG.

We then have the first page of “Part 1: Precursors,” which kicks off discussions on D&D’s impact on media and the importance of exploring the game’s history.

    A Tease from the 2024 Player’s Handbook

This is a big year for Dungeons & Dragons. Not only do we have a fantastic lineup of adventures and events on the horizon, but we’re releasing the 2024 Player’s Handbook and Dungeon Master’s Guide. These rulebooks are a revision of the fifth edition ruleset and are chock full of new, gorgeous artwork.

At the panel, we gave attendees a first look at artwork and a draft of the opening page for the revised Wizard. You can see the artwork below, but as a reminder, it is not a final version.

    Submitting Community Events

New this year, the community is able to submit events for inclusion in the PaizoCon Online schedule! These can be RPG events featuring Pathfinder or Starfinder, as well as other systems or even other types of games entirely! Want to introduce people to your favorite indie RPG? Looking for players for the new board game you just bought? Finally want to settle who the best Mario Karter in the community is? You can host all these events and more!

    1. From the PaizoCon convention page, go to “Host” in the top bar, then click “Submissions.”

    3. Click “New Submission” and choose an event type. For this explainer we’ll be using an RPG event, but most events will ask for the same or similar information.
    4. Fill in the requested information! Let the staff and prospective attendees know as much as you can about the event you’re submitting. Once you’ve filled in the information, click Create!
    5. After submission, staff will review events and either approve them (adding them to the schedule), contact you for more information, or reject them. We reserve the right to reject events for any reason.

You can submit events any time before May 24, 2024. However, if you want your event to be on the schedule before it initially gets released, it must be submitted by March 28, 2024.

If you have any questions about event submission, please reach out to us at paizocon@paizo.com.
